We might not have Scented Narcissi growing at the moment, but we do have some fabulous flowers blooming across the islands, in hedgerows, coastal paths, and gardens. Here are some of our favourite:
Our farmers are as busy as ever preparing the fields for next Season's crop, which should be ready around the end of September.
Mike Brown from Sunnyside Farm has been using the machine below, a "Bulb Hoover", in the last few days on his farm.
The Bulb Hoover has belts that scoop the bulbs up & into the wooden box on the back.
The next step is to bring them back to the shed for cleaning & grading.
Before machines like this were invented, the bulbs used to be ploughed up, left to dry on the ground, then picked up by hand into baskets.
This weekend is the international celebration of The Lonely Bouquet, where thousands of people across the world leave fabulous bouquets of flowers to be found by the lucky people that just happen to walk by.
(Some of our florists are taking part in the celebrations too- this one is by Jessie from The Poundbury Florist in Dorchester)
As you all know, our flowers don't start growing until mid-September, but we won't let that stop us from joining in with the fun!
This weekend, we are leaving three of our luxury boxed gift vouchers around St. Mary's for 3 lucky people to find.
We might not be able to offer a bouquet, but hold on to the voucher you find, and you can redeem it this Autumn- we promise the first Scented Narcissi of the Season from our farmers will be worth the wait!
If you do come across one of our gift vouchers, don't forget to let us know- we'd love to see a photo of you finding it and where!
This week is British Flower Week, where you can celebrate all things British! Our Isles of Scilly flowers are currently in bulb form, being planted ready for September, but here are some beautiful creations from some of our florists for you to enjoy with Seasonal British Flowers:
A bout of glorious weather here on the islands, has meant not only beautiful days, but stunning sunsets. Here are our top five from the last few days:
